Synchronization License

Sync licenses are issued when a song or piece of music is synchronized with visual images for a fee as compensation for the use of the music. That fee is determined by how the song is used with the visual images. This can include synchronization with movies, television shows and video games. Many times it is the music publisher and the publisher's networks that can get access to these types of opportunities. Seeking out music publishers may be part of the process to extend your music's reach. The main task of a publisher is to "exploit" the music. Sometimes exploit may have a negative connotation but in the music business it is really about getting your music in as many places as possible to maximize your exposure to potential fans. Some may argue that there is a fine line that may cross over to selling out. However, here is another perspective: You write songs and people consume them. That is a fair trade. A song can be something very special to individuals and for that, there is a monetary compensation for that enjoyment. Scenarios like this allow you be financially stable and allows you to continue writing songs for people to enjoy. So if a song gets in to a movie or TV commercial, you are able to reach a greater number individuals and then you can redirect their attention from the commercial to your artistry. Maintaining your moral compass is important but being open and flexible to new opportunities that can enhance your musical career is just as important. See you soon! Enjoy
